The Red Ape is an ongoing enquiry into the relationship between language and live performance. The project explores and disseminates innovative approaches to the mediation of political, cultural and social issues through performance art and live writing/text based works. Red Ape has a critical core to its ideology which utilses a range of scientific and aleatory procedures in the construction of body based art works. Conceived in 2006 the project has profiled the work of international and local emerging artists through a series of events ranging from mail art and on-line collaborations, to one-night platforms and commissions lasting over a number of weeks.
